UnionWest Celebrates Hispanic Latinx Heritage Month


Residents can enjoy various activities, from dance events to a City of Orlando celebration

National Hispanic Heritage Month takes place from September 15th to October 15th. According to the Hispanic Heritage Month website, this month celebrates and recognizes the achievements and contributions of Hispanic American champions who have inspired others to achieve success.

 

UnionWest residents are encouraged to attend the following events organized by Downtown Student Engagement:
Let’s Paint/ Vamos a Pintar
When: September 16th 2021 at 4:00 – 6:00 pm (Check in starts at 3:45pm)
Where: DPAC 106A
Details: Students will work with an Everything But The Mime vendor and try their hand at recreating a painting by Frida Kahlo (Viva la Vida). This will also be an opportunity for them to learn about what Hispanic heritage month is and its importance.

 

Let’s Dance/Vamos a Bailar
When: October 4th 2021 at 6:00 – 8:00 pm (Check in starts at 5:45pm)
Where: RWC Group Exercise room
Details: Students will be able learn the salsa (and possibly the bachata – tba). And learn about the importance of dance in the Hispanic/Latinx community.

 

Additionally, the City of Orlando’s Hispanic Heritage Month events include a celebration event on October 12th with Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and an art exhibit featuring pieces from a diverse group of 19 Hispanic visual artists, available in Orlando City Hall until October 24th, 2021.
